Amendment to prohibit the use of DEA funds to interfiere with Industrial Hemp passes

One more big step for industrial hemp farming! Rep. Massie of Kentucky successfully pushed a house amendment with the following language:

“An amendment to prohibit the use of funds in contravention of section 7606 (“Legitimacy of Industrial Hemp Research”) of the Agricultural Act of 2014 (Public Law No. 113-79) by the Department of Justice or the Drug Enforcement”

If you recall, the DEA seized a shipment of seeds in route to Kentucky for use in their pilot program. While the pilot program was clearly authorized under the 2014 Farm Bill, the DEA unsuccessfully attempted to thwart Kentucky’s efforts.

While this is great news, Virginia didn’t have the best turnout with 5 of 11 representatives voting against the bill! Please see below, if your representative voted against please reach out and let them know how you feel.
